Wondering About That Weird New Crack in Your Tooth?

12 March 2025

Noticed a chip or crack in your tooth and are not sure how it happened? You're not alone; it's surprisingly common, especially from your mid-40s onwards. Years of chewing, grinding, or even just the daily wear and tear of life can make teeth more prone to breaking. Add in a bit of stress (which often leads to clenching or grinding), and suddenly, it might be that hard lolly or unexpected olive pit that does more damage than you'd expect! When it happens, it's more than just annoying; it can put a real damper on your mood, make you feel self-conscious about smiling, and even shatter your confidence.

Weirdly, we get many patients calling us about their broken or chipped teeth post the summer period. And while it's tempting to ignore a small chip, what we see with patients is that leaving it untreated can lead to more problems down the line.

If this happens to you?

If this happens to you, it's really important to see a dentist as early as possible - waiting can mean more damage, more pain, and more damage on your wallet. What we see is the risk of infection rises, as does increased sensitivity and extra stress on your surrounding teeth, as a small issue turns into a much bigger one. The good news is, there are plenty of treatment options depending on the size of the break, and often quite simple! While larger damage might require a more significant solution, like a veneer, crown, or even an implant (for long-term strength and protection), what we see in many patients is that if they come in early, they can often resolve the issue with a much more simple solution - bonding, a small filling, or even a sealant solution.

No matter what, the sooner it's sorted, the better for your tooth, your confidence, and your peace of mind. If you've chipped or broken a tooth, don't wait - give us a call, and we'll help you get back to smiling with confidence!

You can book your appointment with either Dr. Matt or Jade Karen Hobbs (who is fully trained in Adult Scope Dentistry), although there is a price advantage of seeing Jade.

Warm regards,

Dr Matt, Jade, Kira, Maria, Bianca, Gemma and Your Team at Accent Dentists
