What Happens During a Root Canal?
If you’ve been told you need a root canal, it’s normal to feel nervous. The purpose of treatment is to remove infection, relieve pain and help save your natural tooth.
Step 1: Numbing the Tooth
We gently numb the area with local anaesthetic so you feel comfortable throughout treatment.
Step 2: Removing the Infection
The infected or damaged tissue inside the tooth is carefully removed.
Step 3: Cleaning the Tooth
The inside of the tooth and root canals are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
Step 4: Sealing the Tooth
The canals are sealed to help prevent bacteria from re-entering.
Step 5: Restoring Strength
Depending on the tooth, it may be restored with a filling or crown to protect it long term.
Most importantly, root canal treatment is designed to relieve pain, not cause it, and can often help you avoid losing the tooth.
