If you are wondering about gum recontouring as an easy solution to a gummy smile, help is at hand, and it's a much easier process than you may think. Shalom initially came to see us because she didn't like the shape and wear on her two front teeth. On close examination, we also found that she had quite dark short teeth with a large amount of gum showing when she smiled.
After discussing her options together we elected to first reposition the height of her gum line with our soft tissue laser which is a surprisingly easy and painless procedure. This meant she showed more tooth when she smiled and much less gum. Then we whitened things which worked really well too. Finally, we veneered her two front teeth replacing the old stained fillings with ceramics and which allowed us to rebuild the teeth to their original overall length and straighten them up.

Ed had a family member tell him he should do something about his teeth and then he decided this might be a good idea to look into. Upon reflection he didn’t like how short, grey and ‘gappy’ they were. We talked him through some options and then settled on a staged approach for him. We first did some soft tissue recontouring on his upper gum line, then whitening and then some zirconia crowns (which are strong enough to resist the wear forces which had resulted from his grinding).
The beauty of this staged approach is that at each stage things improved significantly and he was able to really consider how much he wanted to continue to improve things before committing to that next step. We are absolutely delighted with Ed's end result and couldn’t be more thrilled for him.
Leela decided to do some soft tissue recontoring to make her teeth look longer and display less of a ‘gummy smile’. Then we whitened her teeth, and did a simple plastic filling to close a small space she didn’t like...
